    WHAT IS TESE?

    TESE, which is the abbreviated form of “”Testicular Sperm Extraction”, is the process of gaining sperm from a tissue taken from the testicles of a patient who has not any sperm in his semen. Your sperms can only be used with your approval and no other person can reach these.

    WHOM IS IT APPLIED?

    TESE process is a surgical method that is applied on people who have not any sperm in their semen. Lack of sperm in the semen may stem from various reasons:

    * Blockage in sperm channels
    * Lack of sperm channels from birth
    * Hormonal reasons
    * Genetic reasons: Genes which provide sperm production in men are on Y chromosome. Any problem in these genes affects the sperm production.
    * Radiation: Receiving radiation especially because of cancer treatment sometimes may remove the sperm production and this status can be permanent.
    * Drugs: Some drugs used especially in cancer treatment may permanently stop the sperm production.
    * Infection (after mumps)

    HOW IS THE TESE PROCESS PERFORMED?

    The TESE process is a painless process that is performed with sedoanalgesia and local anaesthesia. Tissue samples are taken from 4 different points of the both testicles. The tissue samples are processed and alive sperm cells are separated. These cells are used in microinjection.

    The TESE process is different from the testicle biopsy. In biopsy, sample is taken from only one part of the testicle. However, there may be sperm production also in other parts of the testicle. For this reason, sperm cell can be obtained with the TESE in patients for whom any sperm cell cannot be found as a result of biopsy.

    The sperm cells obtained as a result of the TESE are stored as frozen and then the patient is received to tube baby treatment program. Otherwise, if sperm cannot be found, there is a risk of applying the treatment in vain.

    The freezing process does not destroy the sperm quality. In addition, it prevents the repeat of TESE operation in the patients for whom the second tube baby is necessary.

    POINTS TO CONSIDER BEFORE TESE

    * You should not eat or drink anything 6 hours before the operation (including water).
    * Please clean the operation part with a blade. Have a shower.
    * Because the pressure on the testicles will cause pain after the operation, please bring a loose trousers or sweatpants.
    * You will be released from hospital 1-2 hours later after the operation.

    POINTS TO CONSIDER AFTER TESE

    * Liquid food intake can be started within 3 hours after the operation.
    * You can have a shower on the 5th day after the operation.
    * Please do not have sexual intercourse for 1 week.
    * If you have any pain, you can use painkiller.
    * If there occurs any rubor, swelling or bleeding in operation part, please inform your doctor.
    * Because sutures which melt on their own are used during the TESE, there will not be process of unstitching. The sutures will melt on their own within 7-10 days.

    RISKS

    As a result of the TESE, alive sperm cell may not be obtained. This risk depends on the underlying reason. The chance of finding sperm in a patient whose sperm channels are blocked is higher when compared to a patient who has a hormonal or genetic problem. After the operation, there may rarely occur infection or bleeding in the operation region.
