What is Unexplained Infertility?
Infertility is the absence of pregnancy despite regular, unprotected intercourse for about a year or more. Studies show that spontaneous pregnancy decreases in women after the age of 35. For this reason, we can say that infertility is the absence of pregnancy after one year and over 35 years of age in women, and 6 months or more in unprotected intercourse in women. When these conditions are met, examinations are started on the couples. Unexplained infertility is the situation where pregnancy does not occur despite the fact that there is no problem in the couples after the examinations.
Unexplained infertility can be defined as the regular functioning of the ovaries of the mother-to-be, the healthy uterus structure, the open tubes, the normal sperm count of the father-to-be and the absence of pregnancy despite regular intercourse for 1 year.
Studies show that 15% of couples who have had unprotected intercourse for one year do not conceive. The examinations and tests make up approximately 10-20% of couples who have no problems and are diagnosed with ‘unexplained infertility’ and want a baby. This situation, which cannot be explained with today’s technology, may have many different reasons. Sometimes couples can achieve pregnancy spontaneously over time without any treatment help.
What are the Treatment Options for Unexplained Infertility?
In the treatment of unexplained infertility, it is recommended not to rush for treatment, especially in patients under 35 years of age. 60-65% of this group of cases become pregnant within 3 years with regular and appropriate sexual intercourse. These couples are told about the frequency of intercourse that may result in pregnancy. In women with regular menstruation, the day of ovulation is determined and it is recommended to have sexual intercourse every other day.
In unexplained infertility, stress management is crucial. Unrest and anxiety factors come to the fore in couples who cannot conceive despite no reason. In this period, it should be known that the spouses support each other and that there is no need to worry. Over time, it may result in pregnancy, that is, by reviewing the cycle order, sexual intercourse will increase the chance of conception. Couples can receive psychological support during this period. Sometimes this can cause sexual dysfunction between spouses. Couples should not see sexual intercourse as a duty, but should embrace the happiness, satisfaction and sexual health of the couple.
In the treatment of unexplained infertility, the situation is evaluated and the treatment method is determined. The treatment option is determined by considering the age of the expectant mother and the duration of marriage. Ovulation monitoring using medication, vaccination treatment (maximum 3 treatments) and IVF treatment are the treatments that can be applied in the treatment of unexplained infertility. Sometimes problems may arise during treatment. For example, if there is a fertilization problem in IVF treatment, the reason will be revealed when the egg is not fertilized after collecting it. Again, the reason arises when we see that the embryo development is bad and slow.
In the treatment, first of all, the method of getting pregnant with normal intercourse should be tried as much as possible. If pregnancy cannot be achieved within a certain time, the situation is evaluated and vaccination and IVF treatment are started.
