Spermiyogram
It is a diagnostic test of which purpose is to measure the quality of men semen cell.
Normal spermiogram values are these:
Number: 15 million/ml at least, Movement: 50% forward at least, Morphology “Shape”: 14% normal at least
Important points:
- Sperm concentration and motility are given by taking average after they are counted for 3 times at least.
- It is necessary to stop and colour the sperm movements in order to evaluate sperm morphology. Papanicolaou coloring technique is used to evaluate the sperm morphology in our laboratory. After 200 sperm from different sections of the preparations coloured with this method are evaluated according to the Strict Tygerberg Criteria, average is taken and morphology result is given.
- Morphology must also be regarded as well as the sperm number and motility in patients of insemination.
